Soluble Varnish - The Final Piece to the Puzzle

Several papers have recently been published discussing the problems of lubricant varnish, the mechanisms of formation and methods to "solve" lubricant varnish. Yet many challenges remain in solving varnish problems when modern oil formulations are used in certain applications, including large-frame gas turbines and centrifugal compressors. This is because the degradation products that contribute to varnish are soluble in the oil at operating temperature and therefore cannot be easily removed by methods that target suspended contaminants. This paper discusses soluble varnish in detail and presents several options to enhance your plant's existing filtration technology from both a contamination control and operational perspective.
