On-site Additive Depletion and Oxidation Monitoring in Turbine Oils by FTIR Spectroscopy

In this session you?ll hear about new methods for determining concentrations of antioxidants and oxidation in used turbine oil. Research that tracks the decrease of antioxidants and corresponding increase in oxidation products will be presented. By monitoring antioxidant levels, early warnings signs can be identified well before oxidation has occurred. The availability of portable Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectrometers, which are compact and easy-to-use, provides new capabilities for real-time, on-site analysis of high-value assets such as turbines.
