About this title
As indicated in its title, Optimized Equipment Lubrication, Oil Mist Technology and Storage Preservation, this extremely and unusually user-friendly book addresses lubrication issues from the vantage point of three experts. With well over 130 years of combined industry experience to their credit, their laser-sharp focus is on optimally applying lubricant to all kinds of general purpose machines. These include process pumps, electric motors and other equipment incorporating rolling element bearing where traditional methods are usually very much out of step with best available practices.
Because oil mist lubrication and large-scale oil mist preservation are extensively used by best-in-class (BIC) user companies, these BICs have long profited from high asset reliability and unparalleled maintenance cost avoidance. In addition to giving previously unavailable statistics, the book describes the methods and procedures employed in these successful pursuits. The text describes and details many cost justification calculations used by BICs, and directs the reader's attention to the remarkably low rates of random or repeat failures experienced at these facilities.
About the Author - Heinz P. Bloch, Don Ehlert and Fred K. Geitner
Heinz P. Bloch
Heinz P. Bloch resides in Montgomery, Texas. His professional career commenced in 1962 and included long-term assignments as Exxon Chemical’s Regional Machinery Specialist for the United States. He has authored or cowritten over 750 publications, among them 21 comprehensive books on practical machinery management, failure analysis, failure avoidance, compressors, steam turbines, pumps, oil mist lubrication and optimized lubrication for industry. He holds B.S. and M.S. degrees (cum laude) in Mechanical Engineering from the New Jersey Institute of Technology’s Newark College of Engineering (“NCE”). In 2019, he was invited to be one of 10 inaugural inductees into NCE’s “Top 100 Hall of Fame,” which honors its most distinguished alumni.
Don Ehlert
Before his untimely death from cancer in late 2019, Don Ehlert looked back on a technical career that commenced with service in the U.S. Navy in the 1960s. As this manuscript was nearing completion in mid-2019, Don had fully 45 years of experience with oil mist lubrication and oil mist preservation. His combined theoretical and practical plant-wide oil mist expertise was unmatched by anyone. He had held positions as Service Manager, Sales Manager, Contract Administrator and leading field implementation expert with Lubrication Systems, Inc., and its successors, based in Houston, Texas. Numerous field trips and consulting engagements had taken him to all continents on the globe. He will be missed by very many, at home and abroad.
Fred K. Geitner
Fred K. Geitner graduated with an MSME from the Technical University of Berlin, Germany. He is a professional engineer in Canada. After initially working as a compressor design engineer for Cooper Bessemer, he embarked on a 30+ year career with Esso/Exxon’s Canadian branch organization. His assignments as Regional Machinery Engineer for Canada branched out into advisory assignments involving process machines in gas pipeline installations and traditional downstream facilities. His contributions are extensive; he has concentrated on machinery maintenance reduction, cost avoidance, failure analysis and reliability improvement.
