Description

This paper tells the story of maintenance and reliability challenges and how effective oil analysis and mobile equipment reliability programs were initiated and sustained in a remote mining area of Western Australia. The author spent fourteen months during 2005 and 2006 performing maintenance and reliability improvement work and living in various mining camps and small towns of the Pilbara Region - an area of wide vistas and harsh red rock landscapes, dust and extreme heat. Examples of failed equipment and case studies of successful calls will be shared, along with thoughts on setting effective statistical alarms, and the challenges of working with remote laboratories. The story is as much about leadership and motivating the workforce as it is about oil analysis.
